The Wonderful World Of Nintendo DSi
Following the release of Nintendo DS and then Nintendo DS Lite, the third member of this platform was the Nintendo DSi. Developed with a wider audience in mind, this version boasts enhancements to some regular features and also has many entirely new functions.
Nintendo wanted to get it right and so, after screening what existing customers were saying about the other versions they came up with the DSi. This console has a bigger screen at 3.25 inches and is about 12% thinner than the DS lite which, unfortunately, means there is no longer enough room for the Gameboy Advance slot.
The camera is probably the first, new, noticeable function. This has software with eleven different lenses for multiple special effects which compensates for the rather low 0.3 mega pixel resolution.Users can do various things with their photos from turning them black and white to merging two faces together to make one.
Another new function is audio play. This doesn’t just let the user listen to recorded items but also with the addition of a microphone, allows them to record and then change the pitch and speed of that recording. So no matter what you’re listening to whether your favourite tunes, a podcast or even your own oratory skills, you’ll be able to fast forward to the exact spot you’re looking for in no time at all.
The DSi can now access the web as well. With its own browser, aptly called the DSi browser, surfing the net is absolutely simple. It also makes it easy to click on the DSi shop where anything related to the DS platform is readily available.
Amazing as all this sounds, the DSi however, already has a little brother. The next generation of DS has been born in the form of the 3DS.This has all the functions and capabilities of DSi with one major enhancement: 3D! Nintendo has brought hand held gaming into the twenty first century by enabling gamers to play to their heart’s content in 3D without the need of glasses. It can even take pictures and shoot video in 3D. They have kindly added an analogue joystick to the controls for greater control and, in order to cope with 3D games it also has a motion sensor and gyroscope (so, you never know, it might be able to double up as a Wii remote too).
Nintendo DSi is the continuing evolution of hand held gaming consoles. It’s a hard job to keep up with the ever-changing face of technology but Nintendo seem to be managing it.
