A Summary For Old-Skool Console Games & Console System

August 10th, 2010

The cost of new video games for the latest consoles like Xbox 360, Wii and PSP can be quite high and though most of these games have excellent graphics and longivity, there are some equally awesome old school retro video games available for a fraction of the price.

You can pick up an old Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast or Playstation 1 for example for next to nothing and the games are really cheap when bought from a second hand game retailer or from somewhere like ebay.

For the price of one new release on a modern console, you can probably pick up an actual retro console and a few games to go with it!

This is a great way to play some of the old classics which you may have missed out on the first time round. Games like Super Mario 64, Shenmue and Final Fantasy VII.

Just because the graphics may look dated, son’t let this put you off playing retro video games. The gameplay and depth of some of these old games sometimes overshadow the length of a modern game in the time it takes to complete. Games like Super Mario World and Final Fantasy are great examples of this.

If you want a more convenient way to play retro games then you don’t have to look any further than Wii, Xbox 360 or PS3. They all have the ability to download retro video games directly to the console and you can enjoy a blast from the past on them. The Wii for example has the Virtual Console which includes games from the NES, SNES, N64, Commodore and Neo Geo.

Using these services are great as you don’t have to buy the old console to play those games on if you don’t want to (though playing them with the original controllers is cool) and you get to play games from the world’s best developers such as Sega, Konami, Capcom, Rare and countless others.

Either way you really have no excuse not to check out these retro video games if you haven’t already. Go and have a look, you will find some gems out there!
