The Return of Ratchet and Clank

November 23rd, 2009

Since they first appeared on the Play Station 2 in 2002, Ratchet and Clank have been the stars of some of the most popular games in Play Station history. The franchise has seen 7 Ratchet and Clank titles released between the Play Station 2, Play Station Portable, and now the Play Station 3. There have also been games starring Ratchet by himself, and Clank by himself.

Now they are back in another triple A title for the PS3, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time. This game is a direct sequel to the last PS3 outing, Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction. The newest game will tie up all the loose ends from the series and give the fans of the franchise answers to some of the biggest questions of the franchise. The secrets will have to be found out by playing the game; I am not going to give away any spoilers. Just know that fans of the franchise will not be disappointed.

The Ratchet and Clank series, released by Sony and developed by Insomnia has always delivered high quality games, with rich detailed levels, memorable characters, and some of the most outrageous weapons in any video game ever. Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time builds on the outstanding development of the previous titles in the franchise, and is without question the most well developed title in the series.

It has all the action and all the humor that has been a trademark of the series and it has never looked better delivering the thrills and laughs. Gamers also expect vast and open worlds to explore with amazing backdrops and amazing scenery. This game doesn’t fail in that regard either. The visuals are stunning and the platforming segments are intense and intuitive. One of the biggest draws to the game, if not the biggest are the variety and uniqueness of the weapons and bosses. The series has always prided itself on unique weapons and unique ways to use those weapons. This game delivers on all fronts.

Ratchet and Clank is one of the most popular Play Station franchises ever, with more then 16 million games sold world wide since their debut on the Play Station 2 in 2002. The latest installment, Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time is a direct sequel to the first Play Station 3 installment and may be the last title in the franchise. Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time builds on the outstanding development of the previous titles in the franchise, and is without question the most well developed title in the series. This is an outstanding game that appeals to the fans of the franchise, as well as people that are new to Ratchet and Clank, and should definitely be added to your game collection.

A Final Fantasy VII Prequel For The PSP

November 18th, 2009

In’97 Square Enix released Final Fantasy VII, which quickly became one of the most popular titles in the history of the Final Fantasy franchise, and it still is today. The game is so popular that in 2005 Square Enix released a CGI movie titled Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, which was a sequel to the story in the game. While this helped keep the legacy of Final Fantasy VII alive, many fans are still hoping for another Final Fantasy VII game.

Square Enix has not delivered a sequel to FFVII, but a prequel, titled Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII. This game is available exclusively on the Play Station Portable, which provides excellent graphics and superior game play for a hand held device. But what if you don’t own a Play Station Portable, is the game worth it to go out and purchase one, is it worth it to even purchase the game itself?

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII has received outstanding reviews from gamers and critics. The graphics and game play on the Play Station Portable are also terrific. Whether you are a hardcore fan of the original Final Fantasy VII, or are new to the Final Fantasy franchise, you will soon become immersed in the world, and enthralled by the excellent story. If you have a Play Station Portable this is definitely a title that is worth picking up, and if you are a Final Fantasy fan it is a must own.

The style of play in Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is somewhat different than the original Final Fantasy VII. While the original was a turn based RPG, this new installment is a free form battle system that allows you to control one character at a time with the freedom to move around during battles while you are attacking. All of the principal characters from Final Fantasy VII are back, but your main character, Zack, is newly introduced during the game.

This is an outstanding game that will help provide additional details about the events leading up to the original Final Fantasy VII. The only complaint about this game is that the process to increase your characters level is random, and not as fully developed as some of the other Final Fantasy titles. Aside from that one issue this is a great game that will you enjoy playing for many hours.

The Decepticons Strike Back – Transformers 2

October 30th, 2009

The first Transformers movie was a huge hit and so it was natural that the studio would want to cash in on the new found popularity of the franchise. So this month sees the release of the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen on DVD and Blu-ray. So is it better than the first film? It certainly is bigger and louder and filled with even more of the over the top giant robots in disguise action of its predecessor. I don’t think that I can say it was any better, but it was at least as good, for the type of movie that it is. It is an action movie first and foremost and a science fiction story secondly.

All of the stars from the first movie are back. John Turturro, Shia LaBeouf, Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel and Tyrese Gibson all reprise their roles from the first Trnasformers movie, and all do a servicable job considering they often have to interact with their CGI co-stars. Tranformers: Revenge of the Fallen was directed by Michael Bay, who also directed the original. Bay’s passion for big action movies and large explosions can again be seen throughout the movie.

Also, just for the record, I don’t think that it is necessary to have the robots use foul language. I understand that in the heat of battle and when everything is going up in flames, the soldiers and human characters would naturally use that sort of language, but the robots don’t need to. Anyway, the special effects are breathtaking and the film makers do a great job of bringing the action alive.

The story on the other hand is a little concocted, but that’s what they needed to do to bring everybody back together again. I understand. You don’t go to this type of movie for the story anyway. If you want to spend a couple of hours getting away from the doldrums of everyday life and watch things blow up on the screen, then this is the kind of movie you will love. Not a classic, but a pretty fun movie to watch. The DVD comes with all the extra stuff you would want packed onto two discs and the Blu-ray comes with the extra digital download disc which is great for putting on your computer or IPod.

This movie is not quite as good as the first in the series and I am sure we will get to see if they put the story telling back together for the third one in a couple of years. I am sure they have already started working on it.

The New Face Of Music Games

October 19th, 2009

There is a video game revolution going on and if you are a rocker, you probably already know about it and love it. I have not found any video game fan yet that doesn’t love playing Rock Band or Guitar Hero. They have been a phenomenon in the video game industry and have helped make video gaming an accepted recreational activity. It has accounted for most of the growth in the industry over the past three years and doesn’t look to slow down any time soon.

Even those that are not fans of rock music or heavy metal enjoy playing these games, however many of them were looking for something that was more in their realm of music. There were individuals that are looking for more techno and hip hop music games, like the music they hear at the clubs. Well, now their prayers have been answered. DJ Hero is the next revolutionary game that is being brought to us by the creators of guitar hero. Although this game does not come with a guitar, a set of drums or a microphone, it does come with something so unique, that many will not be able to guess. It is a music item that millions will be able to recognize and thousands have wanted to work with at one point. DJ Hero comes complete with a DJ turntable!

The turntable is similar to a realistic turntable that a real DJ would use, with the same knobs, buttons and sliders. While the song plays on your TV screen, you will need to operate the turntable, pressing the buttons that correspond to those that appear while the song progresses. It may take some time to acclimate yourself with the new turntable controller, but there are tutorials to help, and after some practice you will be ready to take on the various songs in the game.

The tracks that are included in the game are varied, so that anyone that is not a fan of this music genre will be able to still enjoy the game play, while hearing a song here and there that they can enjoy. Each track is performed by famous DJ’s and are put together so well that even if it is not your favorite music genre you will still enjoy the tracks that you are hearing and you will be able to appreciate the time it took to put each of these tracks together.

DJ Hero is now available for all of the major gaming platforms, and costs approximately $150. While DJ Hero is not as expensive as a full Rock Band or Guitar Hero set, it is still costly. With all of the new Rock Band and Guitar Hero titles being released you may have to choose between one or the other, but if you enjoy club music and hip hop, then DJ Hero is the way to go.

Many people choose to stay at home and watch movies, rather then going to the theatre. It costs less and it is easier to snuggle up to that someone you love. The Wonderful Harmony of Michale Buble

October 6th, 2009
by Patrick Daniels

A popular favorite among lovers of the big band, swing and contemporary music genres, is Michael Buble. Although his album of full of cover songs, mostly, he adds a special touch to these old favorites and makes them his own.

Michael Buble adds a little skat here and there to his songs, that make the listeners go wild. They enjoy hearing him sing their favorites, and many compare him to singers from the Rat Pack era. He has an old sound and a voice that makes anything he sings enjoyable.

Although born in Canada, when Michael sings there is no trace of accent in his voice. He take many favorite standards and updates them so that they are his own. He has even made some duets, and paired up with some contemporary singers, such as Nelly Furtado. Most of his album has one or two contemporary tracks, but his big band sound is in all of them.

“Home” is Michale Buble’s most famous album, and since it’[s release fans have waited for more. You will be happy to learn that there is a new album scheduled for release later in the year. Between his album “Home” and the one that will soon be release, Michale has done so small music projects. There was a mini album release that he make for Hallmark, some movie soundtracks and a few singles.

His new album “Crazy Love” is scheduled to be released in December. This is a great surprise for Buble fans, and has them hoping that a new tour will not be far away from the album, release. Fans enjoy watching Michale Buble preform in person, as he is not only talented, but humorous.

Michael Buble sings the kind of music that appeals to any gender, or age for that matter. Children have been known to sing along, as well as grandparents, and parents in between. No matter what type of music is your favorite, I am sure every true music lover would benefit from owning a Michael Buble album. If you love Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, or any of those types of singers, you will not be disappointed in Michael.

Wii Introduces Super Smash Bros

May 21st, 2009
by Patrick Daniels

A new game from Wii is exciting even the hard core gamers who usually aren’t Wii active. It’s called Super Smash Bros and it is doing very well. It includes all of the favorite Nintendo characters, who all have their own special warrior skills. This game has numerous characters and if you progress, you’ll unlock them as you go.

You can play against the computer with up to four players and over the Nintendo WiFi. It is at its most fun when you are competing against three other friends. All of the classic levels and stages are in this game including a few extra locals. You can even create your own levels and share them online with other people.

In addition to being able to play the fighting modes, there are plenty of other games modes. The game also includes a whole other adventure, platform type game. You can play it alone or with a friend and there are some things that can only be unlocked in the game. It is surprisingly long and involved and would be a whole game by itself from any other developer. It is just an added bonus on this disc and Nintendo didn’t cut corners in bringing extra value to your fifty dollars spent on this game.

This is by far the most entertaining and best looking of the Smash Bros games they’ve released. It has lots of adventures and brings alot for your money. Playing online is pretty easy because the game will match you up with other players, and you’d never know you were on line it’s so smooth.

I still can’t believe how much game they packed onto this one disc, it really is a marvel and a real value if you are looking to get tons of re-playability out of a game. This is the best in the series and should not be missed.

Eminems Best Album Yet!

May 15th, 2009
by Patrick Daniels

With his sixth and latest release, Relapse, rapper Eminem attempts to prove himself relevant so many years after his last album. Indeed, that was back in 2004, with Encore; a lot has changed in the world of rap music since then, and with this ambitious new CD, Eminem is working hard to show why he still matters to his fans.

Eminem has teamed up, once again, with Dr. Dre to produce most of the album tracks. With twenty tracks, this album is worth every penny. Their are an array of different songs, most return to Eminem’s roots, mixing a bit of new with a lot of the old.

Despite speculation that ‘Relapse’ would never be released, Eminem fans can be thankful it did, as it lives up to all expectations. Eminem has finely polished his skills and delivers rap ingenuity that will wow even his biggest skeptics.

Like most of his albums, ‘Relapse’, opens with a theatrical, and hilarious, scene. From there, we hear “3am”, a track depicting the thoughts of a prescription pill abusing psychopath. Eminem’s controversy factor, continues through this album, and fans will be excited that he maintain that focal point in this album.

As the record progresses, Eminem continues pulling many cringe worthy references and hilarious innuendo. Yet again, Marshall Mathers berates his mother on the song “My Mom”; no Eminem release would be complete without such a track. Again, while much of the subject matter on these tracks is hardly new territory for the famous rapper, his delivery surely is; it is more deft, cutting and confrontational than ever before – and that is really saying a lot.

Relapse is a great way to hear the artist at his finest, whether a big fan or just curious. With many new trick this is an ambitious, and wonderfully produced album.
