Pokemon Yellow A Gem Of Its Time

July 14th, 2010

Arguably one among the most addictive games to have been published by Nintendo, the Pokemon franchise has been a source of many great interactive adventures. Adventure, fame, excitement, and more was up for grabs to all trainers who dared take on the world of Pokemon. Pokemon Yellow, the first version that put the player in the shoes of the protagonist from the televised show, was a marvelous addition to the series.

The road to become a Pokemon Master is long and arduous, but well worth it for all trainers to travel upon. As players journey across the Kanto region, he or she will encounter many different types of monsters and fellow trainers. All of this will prepare the trainer to face off against the eight gym leaders and ultimately the Elite Four.

This game, in the long chain of the franchise, has the unique feature to posses the starter pokemon, Pikachu, following the trainer outside of its pokeball. The young trainer eventually meets many cameo characters from the animated show, like the rock gym leader Brock, and water master Misty. Along with many upgraded visuals and game enhancements to its predecessors, Yellow had mini games that allowed the trainer to play more with their Pikachu.

The Pokemon trainer from Pallet Town, the user’s home town, has the ultimate goal to become the greatest Pokemon Master in the land by collecting all eight badges and defeating the Elite Four. The main character has a rival who changes his pokemon in accordance to how the player chooses to play out their adventure. The player is also out to stop the horrible Team Rocket during their travels, as this organization seeks to use pokemon for evil.

The anime television show has the greatest influence within the game franchise on the Yellow version. The show’s gym leaders are not the only characters that appear in the game, Jesse and James of Team Rocket also show up. This evil duo is accompanied by their own pets and the talking Meowth.

Pikachu is the first pokemon to stay out of his pokeball, the equivalent of a pet collar, and follow the trainer. This cute companion has many emotions and sounds that frequently are displayed to the player as a result of their actions. This phenomenal aspect further cemented Pikachu’s role as the mascot of the entire Pokemon franchise.

The chance to walk alongside the pokemon was an opportunity that many fans have dreamed about in their sweetest of dreams. This wish was granted and all who have ever played the series had a real treasure to remember. Pokemon Yellow has been almost the fastest addition to hit top seller in such a short time.

And this is exactly what the player must do if they wish to make the title of Pokemon League Champion, and to subdue the evil members of Team Galactic.

As a creator of the universe alongside Palkia, this time-controlling creature is an exciting addition to any collection of powerful companions.

The ability to play with other live people in head to head competitions, trade, and communicate is activated after a certain point in the game, to make sure a certain level of experience is earned before jumping into a knowledgeable community. This helps expand the already dedicated fan-base to those who love to meet new friends, and to play together with friends.
